... a complete waste of time. Boring plot we've all seen before, awful acting, absolutely ridiculous. 10/10 reviews are ironic. Save yourself and go watch something else.
Despite hearing a lot of negative things about it, both here and elsewhere, and that the cover looked like it would be SyFy film level, part of me was quite interested in seeing 'The Toybox', after it appeared randomly in my recommended for you section, with its premise genuinely intriguing me. Also do appreciate horror and there are some decent low-budget ones out there, just in case one is wondering from a few of my previous reviews that paints me out to be otherwise. 'The Toybox' didn't do anything with any potential it did have, and with the premise it did have it. If asked as to whether it is as bad as indicated, my answer subjectively would be yes. While it won't be down there with the all-time worst films personally seen and ever, 'The Toybox' is another example of a film with no redeeming merits to be found. This is being said with a heavy heart, no malice in sight or intended. 'The Toybox's' low budget does show, have nothing against low-budget as some films still look good and like effort was put into them, effort that is not obvious in 'The Toybox'. It is especially apparent in its drab colour palette and sloppy and choppy editing. In this regard, there are moments that are suggestive of things having been left out and it affects the mix of rushed and non-existent character reactions and continuity. The effects are afterthought-like and like they were made on what little there was left of the budget. The least bad thing about 'The Toybox' is the setting, which had a little atmosphere but difficult to appreciate with it being wasted by everything else looking terrible. At no point too does the music remotely fit or appeal, it sounds like it was intended for something else, can be inappropriate to the mood of some scenes and it is intrusive. Direction has no personality or momentum, with the dramatic elements in serious need of a steroid shot, and heavily indicative of inexperience or disinterest. The dialogue is from start to finish overripe and the lack of momentum and lack of naturalness are obvious. The story is the film's biggest issue, most of it is relatively uneventful with too few scares or sense of horror, those present are excessively predictable, lacking in creativity and are just bland. Lack of tension and suspense further adds to the production, as do the draggy pace and characters that one cares nothing for because they are so flimsy in personality and development and so grating. Then there is the final half an hour, which is far too rushed and tries to cram too much in, most of it being ridiculous and contrived. The acting is very, very poor, the best performance comes from Mischa Barton and she is only okay at best. Denise Richards' lack of acting talent comes through loud and clear. Overall, awful. 1/10 Bethany Cox
Just no!!!don't watch this unless your welded to a chair your eyelids are superglued open and you can't move... terrible I only have it one star because they don't do minus 500 a complete and utter ball of crap from start to finish... please stop making films as terrible as this... ps Mischa Barton must have been stuck for a few pounds to actually..( I can't say star because no hope in hell she does that) I would fire my agent immediately...
Wow i have seen some bad films in my time but this is awful. Whoever produced this rubbish my advice would be too seriously consider doing something completely different. Please dont produce any more films. The acting is terrible and Denise Richards the least said about her the better.
...but this movie was complete garbage. These characters kept making the worst decisions ever and to top it off even when experiencing or witnessing something refuse to speak up. See's someone else inside the RV who isn't part of the group whats a good idea? "I'll just keep quiet and cry the rest of the movie." Tells a child to stay in the line of sight, what does the child do? go behind the camper outside the line of site. RV turns on and chases you, how bout run in a single direction instead of changing directions because why the heck not? I mean honestly most of these people deserved to die. Oh and for that first one. Who goes and investigates a noise inside a camper that doesn't belong to him? "Oh look an RV that doesn't belong to me making sounds. Let me go inside to see what that strange noise is." I don't like watching horror movies where people act like idiots and this movie is full of them. I simply don't understand any of these high ratings honestly. Like are these people entertained at watching sleeping snakes in the zoo? "hey look at that snake its asleep. 10/10 would watch again" There's no hope for the human race.
This truly is one of the very worst films I've ever seen. It's so predictable. No worthwhile storyline. Terrible acting. You can see each death coming a mile off, you can do a countdown from seeing it & when it happens. I actually found myself laughing at what should have been the most upsetting death. No character has any sense or personable qualities which means you have no fear of them dying or any feelings about a death. The end was a blissful relief. I had to watch it all the way through just to see if anyone would survive, sadly they wanted us to believe a killer camper-van was the winner. Watch The Lion King instead, it's a far better way to pass some time, with far more realistic deaths too!
Well its a super demonized winnebago,or whatever its called, this film spins around, and ive decided never to buy a used rv if so should happen. it is a money saving budgeted film, with a secondhand vehicle, small cast, few locations, and the sun is definatey not shining as mine and yours does, flying up and down on the sky as the editor has glued the pieces together.also its a weak storyline, with far to much use of the word''hey''..... so howcome i give it an 8....well its not pretending to be a 10,also in the swarm of badly made horror movies ,this was a nice surprise when it came to jolting, screaming, frenetic acting, and a happy dead end. there are enough blood and gore to satisfy the most squemish of audiences,so this cheap flick of a hrror thriller are good for 8.
I can't be bothered to waste any more time on this movie so I'll keep this brief, I've watched it and that was enough. Don't let the thought of Mischa Barton and Denise Richards tempt you into wasting 95mins of your life watching this ludicrous movie. A ridiculous plot and awful acting makes it a decidedly forgettable experience. Put the kettle on and find something else to watch!
